WHAT WE FUND
English Heritage at Audley End submits applications for funding to The Friends. They are considered and if felt appropriate granted. Examples include the cleaning and restoration of paintings; the setting up of temporary displays and exhibitions; providing resources for conservation projects to protect and preserve the historic collections. Please see below for more information.

Re-positioning of the fire hose reel carrier
The second-hand bookshop at Audley End continues to be very popular and has become a ‘destination’ for many visitors to the house, stables and gardens.

Book cleaning project
On a visit in 1847, Mrs Bancroft, the wife of the American ambassador at that time, observed:

Print archive work
A recent project to organise the collection of prints, drawings, watercolours, books and other artefacts in the attic rooms at Audley End House.

An unusual table at Audley End House
In 2023 an octagonal walnut centre table was returned to public display, in the Drawing Room, having been stored for a number of years.

An Extraordinary Lithographic Collection Of ‘Monsters’!
One doesn’t typically associate Regency England with surrealism, or Lord Nelson’s Naval Officers with visual fantasy. However, Vice-Admiral Lord Mark Kerr (1776-1840), who lived and worked in those contexts, is quite an exception.

Painting Conservation
The painting below is in the process of being cleaned and conserved by English Heritage’s paintings conservators.
