This area is not generally accessible to the public, as it is not controlled by English Heritage, but is part of the Audley End Estate. On a fine evening there is a beautiful view of Audley End House from the Temple.
The arrangement was for Friends to meet just inside the entrance to the Ring Wood, at the top of Chestnut Avenue, where cars can be parked, at 5.30pm. There was a guided walk to the Temple, via the Iron Age fort. Those who dis not wish to walk could meet at the entrance and then drive up to the Temple. Our Chairman, Sarah Kirkpatrick, then explained the significance of the Temple, built by Robert Adam, to celebrate the victory over the French in the Seven Years War (1756 – 1763).
This was followed by refreshments, around the Temple.
